AI Data Centers Are Swallowing the World's Memory

RAM, SSD, and anything to do with memory is seeing huge price increases due to memory giants allocating more capacity toward the high-margin enterprise sector, away from consumer segment. These price increases impact everyone; regardless of whether you have a Mac and were considering an external SSD, or a Windows/Linux user who's building new or upgrading current rig.

It doesn't sound like it will get better either until production capacity is increased but that seems unlikely since companies would be happy to allocate more capacity but not build more in fear of a collapse. The following news doesn't help either:

• Crucial is shutting down — because Micron wants to sell its RAM and SSDs to AI companies instead

• Nvidia reportedly no longer supplying VRAM to its GPU board partners in response to memory crunch
• Samsung and SK join OpenAI’s Stargate initiative
